Valorant Closed Beta: First Impressions

Revealed little more than a month ago, Riot Games' latest and greatest has quickly captivated the attention of esports athletes, streamers, and their massive audiences. A hyper-stylized, class-based FPS, Valorant takes some very obvious cues from Activision Blizzard's Overwatch , but it's coming five years down the line from its top hero shooter competitor and has injected a very different personality and competitive focus into the winning formula. Of course, not everyone is impressed by another Overwatch clone hitting the well-saturated market, but a stir-crazy populace in quarantine is itching for the next hype train to leave the stat


This is the first clip I've seen of a blatant cheater in VALORANT , and someone from Riot responded within an hour. Considering how Twitter isn't the proper medium to report hackers on, that response time is stellar. As a disclaimer, I've yet to run into any suspicious players in the beta. Hopefully that number remains low, but the team at Riot seems determined to do everything in their power to keep their game's integrity uncompromised. VALORANT is a game with strong intentionality. It doesn't try to be too much, sticking to a classic formula and executing it with style and ease. This morning, Dot Esports reported on Twitter that Valorant hit a wildly impressive milestone of 1.6 million concurrent viewers on Twitch on the first day its closed beta, a major feat for a property that's only been in the public eye for such a short time. Her first ability is called Boom Bot and can be purchased at the start of a match for 200 credits. Jett's ultimate ability is one of the strongest in the game currently as it has no time limit and can be used throughout an entire round. Her Ultimate, Bade Storm, can be activated after the player collects six ultimate orbs around the map. When Jett activates her ult she draws five kunai knives which she can fire one at a time, or all at once. If Jett gets a kill while using her ult her knives will refresh meaning she can shoot as many knives as she wants as long as the player gets a kill before using all f


Hot Hands is Phoenix’s signature ability, giving the player a Molotov Cocktail-like ball of flames to use at their disposal. The fireball will explode and spread either on contact with the ground, or after a certain amount of time in the air, where it will take a nosedive to the floor below. She also has a purchasable ability called Updraft that costs 200 credits and acts as a jump boost. Being purchasable it can only be used once after it has been purchased, but it gives Jett a boost in mobility and allows her to get the "jump" on her enemies. Pairing her glide with her Updraft allows Jett to travel quite the distance without touching the ground.
